Attorneys Steve Cornelius and Channing Shor obtained summary judgment for a prominent regional law firm and one of its partners, individually (collectively, the “legal defendants”) in a contentious lawsuit filed in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. In the case, the plaintiffs sought $19.75 million in damages, asserting claims against the legal defendants for inter alia negligence/negligent misrepresentation and fraud/fraudulent concealment.

Attorneys Cornelius and Shor successfully argued that the legal defendants were entitled to summary judgment on all claims asserted against them. In particular, they demonstrated that no duty of care was owed to the plaintiffs, that there was no breach or misrepresentation of fact, and that there were no compensable damages proximately caused by any alleged act, error, or omission on the part of any of the legal defendants. Of key importance was the fact that the legal defendants – and not the plaintiffs – retained the necessary legal experts for the claims/defenses at issue.
